About the village

Horpács is one of the smallest settlements in Nógrád County, but despite of its size it boasts significant values. The village's most important sight is the Mikszáth Mansion where visitors can see an exhibition about the life of Kálmán Mikszáth the famous Hungarian novelist.

Among the sights of the village is the Szontagh Mansion built in the 19th century and the church built in Baroque style in 1740-1744. In the cemetery and in the graveyard next to the church lies Iván Nagy, the historian and Ilona Mauks, Kálmán Mikszáth's wife.

There is a hostel in the village open for the tourists all year round. The Aranyalma Vendégház (Golden Apple Inn) which provides quality accommodation even for tourists riding a horse opened in 2005. The Mikszáth Publishing House and the Mikszáth Kálmán Society are also based in Horpács.
